| WELCOME TO TIPS & TRICKS this months trick is called FUEL PRESSURE February 2008 When it gets cold out, things freeze; most commonly water. When water freezes, it turns to ice. Enough of it can do damage. Since it is cold, here is a little something you need to know. Your car, if it was manufactured in the last decade is monitored by something called vacuum. That means everything is always under some degree of pressure. One thing people tend to do when it is cold is leave their car running when they get gas. That is a bad idea. Even your fuel tank is regulated by vacuum aka pressure. Have you ever undone your fuel cap and heard the tank let out a gasp of air? That is the pressure releasing. If you leave your car running while you are adding fuel, the car will continue to try to regulate that pressure. It can't because you have the cap off therefore the computer will think something is wrong an flip on a "check engine light". That is not a big problem until you take your car to the dealer to get it turned off and he tells you that it will be anywhere from seventy five to two hundred dollars to hook your car up to the their computer so that the car tel tell it that the light is on for that reason. They push a button, turn it off and you get to write a check all because you let your car run while fueling. If you got it like that, no problem. If you are like me and usually have more month than money, it is something you will want to be careful of. Chat with ya next month. Leon The Link |
